Mini Multihull Power and Sailboat Specialists

About the VERSACAT Camp Cruiser

This is the ultimate small boat for fishing, diving, touring or camping. It trails effortlessly, and can be launched and retrieved easily by one person. It enables a single handed or small crew to explore shallow water inland rivers, lakes or coastal areas and make overnight passages in reasonable weather without major crew exhaustion, exposure or worry.

Marketability

The Camp Cruiser can be custom built to order for people entering small craft competitions restricted to human and/or sail power. By eliminating the console, bench seat and motor, it meets the requirements of the annual Everglades Challenge held on the west coast of Florida, where one can camp aboard overnight for short periods without the need for going ashore. Large deck hatches in the center of each hull hinge up and lock in a vertical position to support tents that provide porta-potti privacy, ventilation and protection from foul weather. In addition to sleeping quarters below deck in separate bunks (one in each hull) there is ample space above deck for a tent that can be stored below deck when underway.

Design Features

Patented wedge transoms with sweep action rudders make the boat steer more efficiently than other multihulls. The leeboards and rudder blades automatically kick up when sailing in shallow areas or over submerged objects. The deep, round hull shapes below the waterline are lighter, stronger and have less wetted surface than hulls with steep flat sides. The VERSACAT'S short length with its high flat 12 ft. long by 7 ft. wide deck allows unparalleled visibility when negotiating kelp, rocks, reefs, or shallows. The boat can be rowed, sailed or both together. One mast in each hull carries a 95 sq. ft. sail with full length vertical battens and sail panels that support a high roach. Each sail can be separately reefed and holds a good shape no matter what size it is reefed to.
